My Favorite Storyteller

Posted by Heidi

We are on our way home today............Donovan decides to share a story.

" Mommy? "
" Yes, Donovan? "
" I have friends waiting for me at home. "
" Oh?, really?, what friends are these? "
" I have 153 invisible cats who are 9 "
...silence....
" Really?...153 invisible cats who are 9 years old? "
" Yes, and they are on my bed, in school. "
" Cat school? "
" Yes, special cat school. "
" Hmmm, wow, tell me more. "
" They have names... "
" What are their names? "
" (thinking)...Tired, Light, Cup, Rolling.... "
" Wow, those are really nice names, Sweetie. "
" Yes, and 100 of them are named Nerd. "
" Hmm, Nerd? "
" Yes, like my candy. "
" Oh right, you have nerds back there. "
" Yep!! " ( big grin)
" They are all at home except this one(holding out his hand), in my hand, it turned 10 today, it had a birthday today, his name is Mr. Suitcase. "
" It's nice to meet you Mr. Suitcase."
" And do you know what Mommy? "
" What's that, Honey?
" They eat Nerds catfood. "
" I bet the like that kind of catfood, don't they? "
" Yes, they do. "
" That's a great story honey. Thank you for telling me. "
" You're welcome. "( another big grin)

" Oh, Mommy? "
" Yes, Donovan? "
" I have the same number of Dogs, but they are only 8. " ( huge grin )

This is the end.

I have to say, I have read many stories, many books, but these stories that spawn in my 5 year old sons head are better than any of those.
They are so spontaneous, so creative....so Donovan.
I just could sit here and listen to them all day.
So when I get the treat of having one. I will share it with you.
Maybe ( wink).

I love my son.
I can not wait to tell him this story again when he is 10, and 20 and 30, and then I can tell his kids, too.
This is how great stories are made.

Heidi,
It is funny the stories that you are told about when you are older. My mother is here and will be with me and Callista for 2 weeks and it amazes me the number of stories or memories that she has shared with us regarding my own misadventures as a child or worse yet- instances in my childhood I would rather forget but that she cherishes dearly. Our children give us strength and love in so many ways and I am glad to hear how you share those you have with Donovan with all of us!! thank you very much for this posting... Curtis
