I haven't really ever written about anything here that may offend anyone, or spark a debate, but I have to say something now.
I recently have become more active in my church. Its more a case of awareness, that I want to go more.
I would not say I am a fanatic or anything, but for some reason ,unbeknownst to myself, I am intrigued by what my religion is all about.
I was raised a Lutheran, and still am today, I am raising my son as such, too.
I heard some interesting talk on the radio this a.m. about the book "The DaVinci Code"
I am sure you have all heard about it. It came out 2 years ago, and raised quite the stir!!! The thing is, it still is. There was more debate this morning about it. I believe it was in the light of the news, not old news, but not so new, that Ron Howard is making the book into a movie, starring Tom Hanks.
I have read several articles about this book, and not having read it myself, I am not totally clear what all the hubbub is about, other than the books storyline talks about some historical events in Christianity that never really happened. I have linked this post to an article from the AP that might shed light for those of you who care. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050317/ap_on_re_eu/da_vinci_code_crusade_1
When Passion of the Christ came out last year, I remember hearing all sorts of blasphemous stories about Jews and Christians and 'who did this' and 'who was responsible for that', and so I felt compelled to see it, and honestly, I really wanted to re affirm my faith more than anything else.
Can I just say? I found nothing offensive in the movie AT ALL, I thought as far as movies go, it was great, and as for the story, to the best of my knowledge in the Bible and all I have learned about it, it was pretty accurate.
I guess what I am trying to get at, is a lot of people out there believe the Bible to be a work of Fiction, but there is far more history to it than the Da Vinci book, and may I remind everyone out there... to find this book anywhere, you need to look in the FICTION section.
FICTION: meaning its not A TRUE STORY!!! FICTION
( see the definition here: FICTION \ n /a literary work whose content is produced by the imagination, see also :
[n] a literary work based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact
[n] a deliberately false or improbable account )
Why is so much being made about claims of Jesus and Mary getting married, when real Christians know from what we learn in church and in the Bible, that it's not true. This book is only a story. Nothing more nothing less, A STORY conceived by some man and made into a book. ... and now a movie.
Let me give some examples of stories or books, that were made into movies, keeping in mind that they are fiction, too:
Harry Potter
Star Wars
The Notebook
The Time Travelers Wife ( being made into a movie, said to be starring Brad Pitt)
Christine
I could go on and on, but frankly, these stories were all fiction too, and if I ever believed that there were wizards, or X-wing fighters, or cars possessed, then I could easily believe the DaVinci code. But I find comfort in knowing, no matter what it says about Christianity, the bottom line is , it is still FICTION and I DON'T believe it.
I welcome comments on this, as I am not trying to raise a stink, just state my opinion. I know I should read the book before I make this sort of statement, but without having read it yet, this is all I have to say about it for now.
