Julianna Alyse Mallow has arrived. 8 lbs 8 oz 20 inches born at 4:17 am January 28 2009.
rewind to Tuesday..in the middle of the ice storm hitting the south and east; I went to bed at 12:05 a.m.
I awoke at 1:00 am to some more powerful contractions. Fearful of another wasted trip to labor and delivery, I laid there for 30 minutes with the hope that I was imagining them or they would go away. Well they did not.
So I got up, and did my hair while I ran a bath. I got in the bath for about 20 minutes and they continued to get worse..and closer together.
I decided this was finally it and I had to wake up Chris and get the show on the road.
2:15 am, Chris and I started to get our things together and wake his grandma to let her know it was time.
I woke Donovan to tell him good bye, and we were off.
By the time we got in the car it was about 2:45.
The roads were pretty icy, but since it was so early in the morning, there was not much traffic.
We even managed to sit and wait for a train, luckily it was a short fast one.. there were so many ways that she could have been born in our car!!
We arrived at the hospital 3:20 and I was in a terrible amount of pain.. I was feeling the urge to push and wondered if I waited to long and we might not make it in time...we barely did.
We got me up to Labor and Delivery, and I told the nurses "NO TRIAGE, I NEED A ROOM"..when they got me in to the room, I threw up and my water broke, they got my into the bed and checked me, the first assessment claimed I was a 7..the second determined I was actually at 8+, by 4 am, I am a full 10, and ready to go...
after 17 minutes of pushing she came out, FACE UP!@!%$#
OUCH.. It was hard and it hurt very bad.. I am ashamed and embarrassed that I made quite a scene, there was a lot of screaming and yelling.
I did manage to get an epidural, but I don't think it really had much time to take before she came.. I was glad to have it just the same. The anesthesiologist who gave it to me, was not patient and did not tolerate a lot of hollering from me, to be honest that was the hardest part, the being still while he administered it. I have never claimed to have a high pain tolerance..and this was proof of what a wuss I really am.
I am blessed to have my baby, and that her birth came and went quickly.
I have a few pictures, but am still in the hospital until tomorrow afternoon.
She seems to take after just about everyone she is related to, she looks like Chris and I, but also my grandmother, Chris' father, his mother too, Owen and I can see a little of Donovan.
She has my mothers fingers.. and I can't wait until my family gets to see her.
She has strawberry blonde hair, and a lot of strawberry marks or stork bites..
I love her petite features, she seems so tiny to me, though she is not that small. She just seems so much smaller than the baby I have been used too.
The boys came to the hospital yesterday and both did well...Owen was as gentle as a 22 month old could be.. I think he will do very well with her, as long as he still gets enough time with me.
We have a lot of help around, so it will be easy at first.. It is nice to have family close, just like when we had Owen, and when I had Donovan, it makes all the difference.
Chris did a wonderful job the whole time and he is once again a proud new papa.. he really loves his children, but I think he really loves the brand new baby stage. Feeling her breath on his neck, her little noises, well just everything about her. I am the same way.
I am so happy that she is finally here...I will post some more when we get settled at home.
Thanks for checking in with us.

About Me
- Heidi
- I was raised in Colorado, but born in Kansas, so I guess that makes me a Kansas native. But home is where the heart is, right? I am a stay at home mom, wife and free spirit. I have an amazing husband who lights up my life with his mere presence in it. I have two amazing sons Donovan, who is 10 years old and Owen who is 3 years old. I am also mommy to a daughter named Julianna Alyse who was born in January 2009. I also have two wonderful step children, Katie who is 15 and Connor who is 11. I have weathered many storms, an eating disorder, and divorce, not to mention life itself and here I am stronger for it!!I love movies, games, (not the head type, thank you) and spending time with my kids, my husband, and my family.
